Somewhere between late nights spent dreaming and early mornings chasing trends, many dreamers and Creators with sense of style like you have asked themselves one powerful question : Can I really turn what I love into something profitable? This is written to answer that question. Yes, you can. And not only that, you can build a life, a business, and a movement around your creativity without watering down your style, your culture, your identity, your morals or value system.
I know what it feels like to be full of ideas, to see beauty in details others overlook, to be multifaceted. Maybe you are the kind of person who is both analytical and artistic, both corporate and creative, both bold and soft. You have been told to pick one thing, to niche down or play it safe. But deep down, you know you were made to do more, there’s more your inner mind is reaching out for, you see tv stars, people rocking the stage and you believe you can do whatever they’re doing, that gift you wish you know how to make it happen
In 2021, I moved to England in search of new adventures. It was a completely different landscape. For the first time, I had to work outside of my creative zone. Back in Nigeria, I had spent over a decade using my talent as currency, from hosting events at age 17, to launching Image Kitchen, my first business at 21. That business gave me the opportunity to work on a historic project, We created the world’s largest photobook a Guinness World Record. Around commissioned by the then President of Nigeria, Late Muhammadu Buhari, thanks to his photographer Bayo Omoboriowo who commissioned me for the project. I also started blogging and educating men about fashion, which eventually birthed my brand.
But moving to England stripped everything familiar. I was self-sponsored. I had to survive. I worked shifts at factories. I stopped creating. I was just existing. No community. Winter. Isolation. I was depressed. From centre stage to sorting parcels in an Amazon warehouse. Nothing prepared me for the new culture shock and reality of the western world, it wasn’t as easy and sweet as marketed on tv, as a child who watched the premier leagues and engulfed myself in the British fashion culture, ive always known one day I will have to live in London, I saw the glamour before coming but nothing prepared for the behind the scenes.
It was never in the plan. Later, I became a healthcare assistant in a mental hospital. In April 2022, my mum passed away from a failed kidney transplant in Nigeria. It was the darkest tunnel of my life. Just as if the loneliness I was going through wasn’t enough, having my mum leave left a bigger void in my heart, No light in sight at the end of this tunnel for me. But something happened at her funeral. People spoke about her smile, her style, oh yes my mum had an impeccable sense of style, never to be caught unfresh, growing your tan shoes must always be tan and your black shoes must remain black, she was an ijebu princess always known for their impeccable sense of style and she ensure she raised us with such noble character and values.
At the funeral, the guest which are her family and friends from church and the ones who had known her from a long time testified, the man who sold her casket stepped out to speak about his encounter with her and how he had just started his business about a decade ago and my mum walked into the store to buy a casket for her own mum, who is my grandma and he was downcast about how business had been slow and she inspired him and advice and went ahead to share the lessons she had learned through her journey in business and she will routinely stopped by to check on him to see how the business is doing and mentor him.
As he testified about her life, something inside me awakened. It hit me, life is not just about existing, it is about impact and that event transformed my life, that the true essence of living life isn’t just about living life but how many people we are able to shine our light with.
In the search for healing, I began to express again. I started telling my story. I stopped hiding. I understood that it isn’t just about me or what I can get for myself but how many people I can assist on my journey with what I’ve already know and learn, I saw that purpose was calling me back. Slowly, joy returned. In August 2022, I challenged myself to write for 21 days on fashion and by day 21, I was transformed. People reached out from all over the world. They were inspired. I had turned my pain into purpose. And that journey is what led to the project threads and Profit, I discovered I lived all my life in a bubble and I dint know how much I’ve been blessed for the things I’m passionate about to put food on my table and give me a life till that time, back in Nigeria, I grew up amongst creatives who all we know was to turn our crafts into currency, I dint know there are people who had difficulties of where to even start from or the courage to start or even know how talented and gifted they're, coming to England was an eye opener for me and exposed me to a new reality of life.
So what is this really about?
Over the years, I have learned how to use my sense of style to open doors and self expressed my self, People trusted my work as an MC because of how I showed up. My blog attracted readers. My fashion brand built a tribe. Style is a signal. It is your story before you say a word. And when you learn how to use it with purpose, it can change everything.
I’m not here to guide you, you’re a dreamer, you have the guide in you already, this is about we collectively looking into my reflection, the stories of creators like me and you in respective arts, tech, entertainment and their approaches on how they’ve been able to leverage their individual style, This project is to inspire you from dreaming to doing, from passion to profit, impacting you to create a difference . I will show you what is possible in today’s creative economy through personal stories, practical strategies, and case studies.
Who is this For
This is for dreamers with sense of style. People with taste, vision, and soul. Whether you are a designer, content creator, stylist, photographer, dancer, fashion entrepreneur, or all of the above, this is your blueprint And even if you are not in a traditionally creative job, maybe you are an accountant, tech bro or sis, politician, lawyer, farmer, plumber, or a failed basketball player who missed the NBA, if you have a gift, a story, and a sense of style, this is for you too. Because your style connects everything. It bridges your creativity with your message and helps people see the real you.
Why am i doing this ?
Back when I was working in a mental hospital, I knew I didn’t belong there, not because I was too good for it, but because I had so much more to give. I kept pitching my skills to a friend who managed major Afro pop talents. I wanted us to work together. I had ideas, energy, solutions. I was talented, I ca write, speak, design but I dint have the attention that will make an agency interested In having me on board and it became clear — the system only supports those already making money or with visible potentials to make them money. So I stopped waiting to be picked. I picked myself. I took my suit to the street. Took photos, Posted online, Told my story, People noticed, People listened, Style helped me get attention. Attention gave me a voice. And that is where every creator starts, when people come closer they're able to see more of what I can offer, my style opened doors for me, help me start conversation and I only took the opportunity to leverage my style.
Why Your Style Matters
The Bible says God looks at the heart but man looks at the outward appearance. That means people see how you present yourself before they ever hear your message. In today’s world, attention is the new currency. And style is your first leverage. You already have it, Now it is time to use it.
